Spring time in Feb replaced by a wintry feel at the end of March

Wokingham battered by rain and high winds - News - getwokingham

February and March have been busy months, I have been travelling about and comparing and contrasting Wokingham to other places. So it was interesting to see that “Town voted least British in the UK “ and also “Highest Quality Of Life Is Near London”

So I have been keeping up with news on Wokingham via the web. And checking the logs on the eating.inwokingham.com site I see that the new IMMO restaurant is proving popular. Owned by the same company as Prezzo I find it surprising that they seem to be taking an understated approach to marketing this new branch in Wokingham. The space for the venue was created from a classic building in the centre of town that accommodated the Library before the new one in Denmark street was built, and then part of Bracknell and Wokingham College.

The big news for the area comes with the approval of a major upgrade to Junction 11 of the M4. The main exit for Wokingham is a Junction 10 and many drivers pop along to Reading via the M4 and J11, which is close to the Courage Brewery, Majestki Football Stadium and several Retail Parks.

Builder & Engineer - £60m M4 upgrade gets go ahead

Talking about the M4, if you are didn't know that you easy & free access to many cameras around the UK, check out the web links in the show notes. Why would one want to do that? Weather & traffic are just 2 that tweek me. Combine the cams with a weather radar map and you can see if that snow shower has reached wherever in real time. Check the traffic volume on the M4 before a journey West or east. etc

And I came across two example of silly scheduling, The on platform waiting rooms at Bedford Railway station being refurbished, and the refurbishment of the nearest recycling centre for Wokingham.

Wokingham Borough Council - Longshot lane waste site closure

The same happened in Cambridge and Bedford except in there cases there was total closure for many months. I say “take recycling seriously” it should not be a game. In Ireland the WEEE implementation has led to an extra charge on every item, the amount depends on the size and value of the item.

Clamp down on speeding drivers continues – Berks East

Road Policing officers, the Road Safety Constable for Berkshire East, and the Local Council Road Safety Officers (RSOs) continue to crackdown on speeding drivers.
The check, which was organised in response to concerns raised by the Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG), took place on Forest Road in Binfield this morning (27/3).

In just two hours, 30 motorists were stopped, travelling a range of speeds from 35mph to 48mph. Officers also carried out further checks on those stopped to ensure the drivers had correct vehicle and driver documentation. 17 drivers were given roadside education by the RSOs, the other 13 were issued with £60 Fixed Penalty Notices and will have three points endorsed on their license.

PC Bob Wade, Road Safety Constable for Berkshire East, said: “The local NAG set speeding as their second highest priority for the area and it is quite clear that the residents want speed enforcement carried out. “We will continue to carry out checks across Berkshire East to educate drivers that speeding, and other offences such as not wearing as seatbelt or using a mobile phone, are illegal for a reason and will not be tolerated.”

Warning after average of four sat navs stolen per day - Slough

An average of four sat navs have been stolen per day in Slough during the past two weeks, crime figures show.

Between 1st and 18
th of March, a total of 68 sat navs were stolen from vehicles around Slough. The local police area commander for Slough, hopes that this statistic will send out a stark warning to motorists not to leave sat navs in their vehicles. Police are also urging people not to buy sat navs from anyone trying to sell them “on the cheap”; they could be handling stolen goods if they do......

.... “Many drivers are unaware that leaving the support cradle and suction pads behind still encourages thieves to break into the car, because they assume the device is hidden in the glove box. Thieves will even spot the tell-tale cradle sucker ring on the window or dashboard, so we encourage people to wipe away the mark.

We Think: AGAIN BLAME THE VICTIM.

Our crime reduction teams continue to drive the message home; however we also need the support of motorists.”

He added: “By buying a sat nav on the cheap just to save a few pounds, you may be committing an offence of handling stolen goods. Therefore, I would recommend that should you be approached by someone selling a sat nav on the street for example, you consider whether or not it is stolen property.”

Have you seen these paintings? – Wokingham 19/03/08

Police are asking people to be on the look out for two paintings that were stolen on Saturday (15/3) from a shop in the Market Place, Wokingham.

At around 3pm two men entered Pictures and Frames. Whilst one man distracted the staff, the other picked up two paintings and walked out of the shop. They both then ran off. The paintings are both 12 inch square landscapes with acrylic trees and a vivid orange and yellow background. They are in gold coloured frames with white mounting. They are signed at the bottom by K. Dorlington.

The man who distracted the staff is white, aged in his early fifties and of a chunky build. He was wearing a checked shirt and a navy/black jacket.

The other man is white, aged in his late forties and tall. He was wearing a striped shirt and blue denim jeans. He was carrying a light blue fleece.

PC Alex Turnbull, who is investigating the incident, said: “These pictures are quite distinctive, so I would ask people to be on the look out for them. I would also ask anyone that may have witnessed this incident or who saw the men running away, to please get in touch.”

PC Turnbull can be contacted via the Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. If you don’t want to talk to police and don’t want to leave your name, call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
